Guys, it’s that time of the month again. It’s giveaway time! And, of course, monthly income reports. 🙂
Last month, I made a big change and decided to do a photo-sharing contest in place of our monthly giveaways. I have to admit, as much as I enjoyed seeing all the delicious photos you guys shared on Facebook and Instagram I kind of miss reading your comments here.
We’ve been doing these giveaways for three years now and the most fun part was getting to know you. Over the years, you’ve shared with me stories about family, goals, favorite food and holiday traditions among other things. It was like every month we all gathered together and talked like friends. And I miss that!
If it ain’t broke, why fix it, right? So this month, we’re going to do $200 Holiday Gift Box Giveaway along with the #SnapKawalingPinoy photo-sharing contest. I hope you’re excited because I am! But before we proceed to the mechanics of the giveaway, let’s run through August numbers.
After the huge leap in July, I am super happy to see that traffic continues to grow as we head into the busiest quarter of the year. Holidays are just around the corner and I am hoping with #allfingersandtoescrossed that Kawaling Pinoy will hit 1, 500, 000 pageviews come December. One and a half million pageviews! It feels surreal even just typing that number! I’ve been blogging full-time for six months now and to this day, I still pinch myself to see if I am dreaming. I wanted this so bad and now that’s it’s happening, I still can’t believe it.
I owe it all to you. Thank you for the likes, comments, visits and continued support of Kawaling Pinoy. I am able to wake up in the morning and do what I love to do because of YOU.
I haven’t been posting recipes here on Kawaling Pinoy as frequently as I used to because first, I’ve been busy getting my Onion Rings and Things blog off the ground. I launched it a couple of months before Kawaling Pinoy but try as I might, it just won’t budge from its 65K to 90K monthly pageview average. I’ve been going through each and every recipe to make them more search-friendly and that takes quite a chunk of hours. Hopefully, I’ll have the blog all spiffed up and ready in time for the holidays.
I’ve also been going through each and every post on both blogs (900 plus!) to improve the quality of my writing. I am using a plug-in called Grammarly which highlights and corrects any misspellings or grammatical errors. If you come across “suprised” instead of “surprised” on any of my posts, please let me know so I can correct it asap. 🙂
Lastly, I’ve been busy shooting recipe videos. They are the new craze on social media and every blogger I know are jumping on the bandwagon. I’ve been wanting to start my own YouTube channel for years, it’s time I quit talking about it and just get on it. The video below is my very first attempt (you can find the Breakfast in Bread recipe here) and I would be eternally grateful if you take a minute to watch it. It’s not the prettiest but we all have to start somewhere, right?
What do you think? Do you like these fast paced, one-minute style videos or the traditional ones on YouTube like this?
Part of the highs and lows of food blogging for a living is that income rise and fall, sometimes significantly, from month to month. As you can see from the graph above, income jumped 61% from July to August! Although I had roughly the same amount of traffic for both months, July is notorious for low advertising dollars. I guess this is where proper money management plays a big role in running your own business. I need to be an ant and learn how to store away grains when they’re plentiful so I don’t go hungry on rainy days like a grasshopper. 🙂
Banner advertising was pretty much the same for August but what brought a significant boost was a couple of sponsored posts I did. I’ve been actively pursuing this type of monetization these past months and I am so glad to land a few awesome opportunities. I love doing sponsored posts as they not only bring additional revenue, I am also able to introduce you to my favorite brands. Please be assured that I only work with products I’ve personally tried and would actually buy for myself.
WHY DO I SHARE THESE REPORTS?
Discipline and organization have never been strong suits of mine. I am hoping my posting these reports monthly will give me some sort of accountability and a concrete picture of what I want to accomplish. I am also hoping the little things I am learning will be of good use to my fellow bloggers and serve as an inspiration to our kababayans who are thinking of starting their own blogs but are hesitant about making the jump. It’s time to live your passion, to do something you’re pumped up about and enjoy. Instead of just earning a living doing something you tolerate, harness your passion and do something great.
Guys, I am so excited to announce last month’s winners! The photo-sharing contest was more successful than I’ve hoped for and I really enjoyed checking out all the wonderful food you guys posted on Instagram or Facebook. I enjoyed the pictures so much we are going to have THREE winners for this month instead of two.
